Summer Camp 2011

RecycleRama

Children will learn to think creatively using reusable materials. Changing their perception of objects and discarded items, they will be invited to explore the treasures and wonders of “garbage”. They will learn how to draw 3 dimensionally with plastic bags, create textured 3D found object collages, transform plain plastic water bottles into colorful robed papier-mâché people and will finish off the week by creating their very own stuffed monsters and sock puppets from the children's 2D drawings.

Around the World in 5 Days

Kids will become explorers of the world's creative corners, discovering crafts and skills from different cultures every day. They will use potatoes to simulate Japanese block printing techniques. On their own African safari adventure they will learn to sculpt sitting animal ornaments using clay modeling skills. Children will create their own musical instruments through learning about the tribal pointillist painting techniques of the ancient Aborigines on their own didgeridoo. The final creation in this intensive week of exploration will be a fun "filled" Mexican piñata that the kids can take home and use at their next birthday party or celebration!

Imagination Creations

This week we concentrate on learning different ways and techniques of making sculpture. Alberto Giacometti's stick figures will introduce us to wire structures and plaster bandage. We will be using paper clay to build delicate structural and architecturally influenced geometric sculptures. Finally through casting and mould making we will be constructing our very own 3D abstract sculpture inspired by the 2D paintings of the Abstract masters…

In the steps of the Masters

Collecting inspiration from the masters Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse and Serat, Students will spend the week learning how to take elements of design and be stimulated by the forms, shapes and painterly techniques of these artists' works in order to create their own three dimensional response pieces in clay, papier-mâché and other material.

Houses, Huts and Dwellings

Students will look at houses, huts, and dwellings from different eras and in different countries. Learning about structural forms and designs, they will make African mud huts, straw roofed cottages, cardboard towers, and clay stone buildings.

LiteraryLand

Sculpt your favorite characters or invent your own, and create a diorama (environment / stage setting) for them based on your favorite book or childhood story. Children will write a visual story and produce their own flip book.

Marevelous Mosaics!

Students will choose to make either a mirror or a wall piece for their mosaic project. Each will design and create tiles in clay, paint and decorate them and assemble them to create a marvelous mosaic!
